The Entrance
Examination is held during May at 34 centres spread all over the country.
Eligibility: Bachelor’s
degree under the 10 +2+3 pattern of education in Physical Sciences, Biological
Sciences, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences, Fishery Sciences or
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or Medicine (MBBS) or BDS with a
minimum 55% marks.
M.Tech. Programme in Biotechnology
With the help of grants from
Department of Biotechnology, the JNU holds an Entrance Examination for
admission to a three-semester (one and a half yr) M.Tech. Programme in
Biotechnology at Anna University, Chennai and Jadavpur University, Calcutta.
The Examination is held during May at 34 centres spread all over the country.
Guidelines for Entrance test
: The question paper for the Entrance Examination is of 3 hours duration
consisting of Two Streams : (1) Technology Stream and (2) Life Sciences Stream.
Selection Criteria : While
the admission at Anna University is based on the candidate’s performance in the
entrance examination alone; the admission at Jadavpur University is based on
the candidate’s performance in both the written test as well as interview.
(Written Test : 70 marks ; Interview : 30 marks).
The IIT at Guwahati and
Kharagpur run a 5 yr integrated M.Tech. programme in Biochemical Engineering
and Biotechnology. The entrance is through IIT - JEE and IIT Kharagpur requires
that the candidates should have had Biology - Life Sciences at the +2 level.
M.Sc. Programme in Agricultural Biotechnology
Jawaharlal Nehru University
holds a combined Entrance Examination for admission to a two-yr M.Sc. programme
in Agricultural Biotechnology at Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, Coimbatore,
Pant Nagar; and a 2-yr M.V.Sc. Programme at the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and
Animal Sciences University, Chennai. The examination is held during May at 34
centres spread all over the country.
