NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY (NDA)

One can take NDA entrance exam right after class XI.

Successful candidates clearing the written exam are called for a 4-day SSB interview.

Selected candidates are required to clear the medical criteria following which they join the NDA for the three yr course.

At the NDA apart from the professional training, there are 31 extra-curricular activities to choose from such as aero-modelling, golf, gliding, sailing, wind surfing, astronomy, photography etc.

 

INDIAN MILITARY ACADEMY, DEHRADUN (IMA)

To get into the Indian Military Academy (IMA), one has to clear the Combined Defence Services (CDS) exam. This exam can be taken after final yr of graduation.

Graduate Direct Entry Scheme.The duration of training is one and a half yrs.

Technical Graduates Entry Schemes.The duration of training is one yr in the case of the Technical Graduates Entry Scheme and NDA Gentleman cadets.

At IMA, training covers all aspects of combat and warfare tactics including use of computers and other modern training tools. It provides excellent facilities for all-round development and for adventure sports like river rafting, para jumping, rock climbing, trekking and mountaineering. From the IMA, one is commissioned as a Lieutenant in Indian Army.

 

OFFICERS TRAINING ACADEMY, CHENNAI (OTA)

Candidates selected for Short Service Commission go to the Officers Training Academy at Chennai. Selection: Written exam followed by the SSB interview and the medical test.

Selection for Technical (Engineering) graduates: After the initial screening of applications by Army Headquarters, the short-listed candidates take SSB interview. SSB qualified candidates undergo a medical examination.

The duration of training is 9 months. OTA trains one to be a first class officer and provides the opportunities for all round development with facilities for skeet-shooting, golf, riding or angling.

 

DIRECT ENTRY FOR NCC GRADUATES

Indian Army offers Short Service Commission (Non-Technical) to graduates with 'C' Certificate in NCC Senior Division. Eligibility: Unmarried men in the age group of 19 to 25 yrs, Graduate with an aggregate of 50% marks, Service in NCC for minimum 2 academic yrs in the Senior Division of Army Wing of NCC and have obtained minimum of 'B' Grade in 'C' Certificate Exam.

Selection: SSB tests and interview followed by medical test.

Training duration is 9 months at Officers Training Academy, Chennai. On successful completion of training, candidates are granted Short Service Commission in the rank of Lieutenant. The final allocation of Arms / Services is made prior to passing out of cadets from OTA.

How to apply: Apply in the format notified in the advertisement to nearest OC, NCC Unit or to NCC unit from where NCC 'C' certificate has been issued. The NCC Units forward the application to DDG, NCC of concerned State.
